✖️ Split Squat Variation
👉🏽 Firstly, a split squat and a lunge train the same muscles and are performed in the same manner, however, a lunge includes the dynamic component where a split squat does not.
👉🏽 It’s not wrong to let the heel raise from the floor when doing a split squat, it’s simply a variation of the split squat to change the demand of the muscles we’re using.
👉🏽 The more we bend the knee, the more we use our quadriceps. To emphasis quadriceps recruitment, and in particular coach them to contract when the knees are well beyond the toes, you can increase the range of motion of a split squat by rolling onto the ball of your foot, and therefore bending the knee more.
👉🏽 This will transfer nicely to things like squats, downhill running and vertical jumping given all create a huge demand on the knees – it’s important the quads are strong in this range to help handle and absorb the load.
